Theme: Our place in Time

Time Scavenger Hunt

Summary:

Participants construct a timeline of the universe using found objects from the surrounding area. The timeline is a useful scientific model.
How old is this?

Description of activity

Each team goes on a scavenger hunt to find objects of various ages and place them in relative order of age according to slips (see picture to right). All teams then do one collective grouping (note how relative age then changes). Integrate into the group's timeline: Dinosaur, meteor crater, Pleiades Cluster (will be in same cluster as dinosaur), Hubble Deep Field, hydrogen, Great Wall of China.
